Just Unfriend me already – please!

Posted on my Facebook:

Dear Lord, I’ve tried to be good and turn my cheek for months now. But my tongue is sore from biting it. In advance, I ask that you please forgive my outburst.

Well it is almost two weeks until Election Day 2012.  This is a really exciting time for me every two years, being as I’ve made my living for the last 17 years in Oklahoma politics.

Thinking back over these years my mind wanders back to President Bill Clinton’s re-election campaign in 1996.  We didn’t have Facebook back then, but Okies did know how to use the telephone.  I remember hanging up on so many self-proclaimed “Christians” who had no problem spreading lies, cursing and shouting hate-filled rants on the telephone.  Back then most of the time I had no idea who was on the other end of the phone.  Today these same type of people are on Facebook – many of them on my own friends’ list.  But this time there is another disgusting trait many display – hate for the black man in the White House.

What really gets my gall up about so many of these Facebook friends is that one minute they’re posting beautiful pictures proclaiming their love for Christ and then the next minute they’re posting a link to some lie-filled, hate-filled, bigotry-filled post by someone like Rush Limbaugh (who flunked out of four colleges, failed in four marriages and was charged for doctor shopping for prescription drugs).

There is nothing Christ-like about spreading hate.

There is nothing Christ-like about spreading lies.

There is nothing Christ-like about being a hypocrite.

How is it that “Christians” are supporting a ticket that worships Ayn Rand, a self-avowed atheist, who hated the small, poor people?  How is it that “Christians” are supporting a ticket that believes Corporations are people?  How is it that “Christians” support these “corporate-people” who are destroying our home – Earth – that was given to us by the Creator?

I really don’t understand these people and it would probably be healthier for my attitude and health if these types of people just unfriended me (or I them) on Facebook.  Because too many of their postings really send my blood pressure flying high.

If you believe Democrats are evil – then you believe that I am evil, you believe that my parents and grandparents were evil – and you are not the type of friends I wish to have.

You can debate philosophy and problems and solutions.  But you cannot have a real debate with anyone who accepts fact as fiction and fiction as fact – it’s a total waste of time.

The Obama hatred is getting old

I noticed that several of my Facebook “friends” posted this on their status.

I guess I should no longer be shocked or disappointed in the things those who hate our President will say or do, NO MATTER WHAT.

Oh how I wish Facts were important to everyone.

It is a fact that Congress has the power of the purse and Congress is responsible for ensuring funds are available to “pay the troops.”

It is a fact that after taking office, President Obama ordered the CIA and the Pentagon to come up with a plan to once again focus on capturing or killing Osama bin Laden.

It is a fact that as Commander in Chief, President Obama ordered the strike that occurred Sunday, May 1, 2011 that resulted in U.S. Special Forces killing Osama bin Laden in Pakistan.

If the operation that President Obama did order had not turned out the way it did, and had instead resulted in the deaths of Americans, believe me (or better yet, believe history) – President Obama would have received the blame [see: Kennedy/Cuba-Bay of Pigs; Carter/Iranian Hostage Rescue; Reagan/Beirut barracks bombing; Clinton/Black Hawk Down-Somalia].

President Obama stated it best Sunday night at the end of his speech:

Tonight, we give thanks to the countless intelligence and counterterrorism professionals who’ve worked tirelessly to achieve this outcome.  The American people do not see their work, nor know their names.  But tonight, they feel the satisfaction of their work and the result of their pursuit of justice.

We give thanks for the men who carried out this operation, for they exemplify the professionalism, patriotism, and unparalleled courage of those who serve our country.  And they are part of a generation that has borne the heaviest share of the burden since that September day.

Finally, let me say to the families who lost loved ones on 9/11 that we have never forgotten your loss, nor wavered in our commitment to see that we do whatever it takes to prevent another attack on our shores.

And tonight, let us think back to the sense of unity that prevailed on 9/11.  I know that it has, at times, frayed.  Yet today’s achievement is a testament to the greatness of our country and the determination of the American people.

The cause of securing our country is not complete.  But tonight, we are once again reminded that America can do whatever we set our mind to.  That is the story of our history, whether it’s the pursuit of prosperity for our people, or the struggle for equality for all our citizens; our commitment to stand up for our values abroad, and our sacrifices to make the world a safer place.

Let us remember that we can do these things not just because of wealth or power, but because of who we are:  one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Thank you.  May God bless you.  And may God bless the United States of America.
