Congrats
Congratulations to the newly elected leaders of the Oklahoma Democratic Party at Saturday’s convention. The new 2011-2013 officers are:
Chairman – Wallace Collins (Norman)
Vice-Chair – Dana Orwig (Oklahoma City)
Secretary – David Ratcliff (Tulsa)
Treasurer – Donna Russell (Moore)
If you missed the news articles about the convention, here is the Oklahoman’s story by Michael McNutt and here is the Norman Transcript’s by Meghan McCormick.
If you are on Twitter, you can go back and read what delegates were tweeting during the convention by searching the hashtag #okdem11.
Some have equated the 2011 convention to the 1999 convention. There is a big difference between the two. In 1999 the Chairman refused to abide by the rules and because of that and the fact that there were more votes than there were delegates, the DNC refused to seat Mike Mass as a member of the DNC until a new election was conducted a year later. While the process took many hours this past weekend, outgoing Chairman Todd Goodman and those running the meeting did the correct thing by reviewing the credentials of delegates and re-voting.
I did not attend the convention this weekend. It is the first one I have missed in 16 years.
